This year tradition was messed with.
This year I was informed that I was in charge of cocktails for Thanksgiving dinner and that someone else would bring the pie… Wait what?
I love making cocktails but I always bring the pie! Grandma Monique’s recipe! Every year!
Humpf. Well fine then. I’ll bring cocktails but they’ll have pie in them.
Introducing homemade pumpkin pie spice infused vodka.
I put dried cloves, cinnamon sticks, and chunks of fresh ginger root into a glass decanter of vodka and let it sit in a dark corner for a week. I tasted it every couple of days and once the vodka tasted like pie I strained it.
Pie in a glass makes me almost as happy as Grandma’s pie in my belly.

Our matriarch was coming up on 70 good years and I was charged with developing some custom cocktails for her surprise party. It was a job I took on with glee.
I wasn’t sure where I was going to go with it but the first custom cocktail would be developed around a wild blueberry simple syrup.
Frozen blueberries, sugar, and water boiled, simmered, strained, chilled, and stored in an enormous old pickle jar.
This delicious and sweet syrup inspired Mamacita’s Mojito. Baccardi rum, fresh squeezed lime juice, fresh mint, and of course wild blueberry simple syrup, garnished with frozen blueberries served over ice. A delicious cocktail for a wonderful woman at a fantastic party.
